The (New) Most Powerful Job Search

The (New) Most Powerful Job Search was originally published on The Job Insiders.

As you may have seen, there were two recent changes to the biggest job boards:

1) LinkedIn has moved to a new AI-based job searching system – which, while cool, makes it hard to get a handle on exactly how many jobs are available for a certain specialty

2) Indeed has removed their Boolean search filters – which means that you can no longer hone in on precise job titles via tricks like “title: product”

So when it comes to understanding exactly what’s going on in the labor market, I now have a new favorite: Flexjobs!

Even though it only covers remote + hybrid roles, it still allows you to get really precise with operators like the following:

  • AND — to include multiple terms that must all appear in the results (e.g., marketing AND remote)

  • OR — to find results containing either term (e.g., writer OR editor)

  • NOT or — to exclude terms (e.g., developer NOT junior or developer -junior)

  • Quotation Marks ” “ — to search for an exact phrase (e.g., “project manager”)

  • Parentheses ( ) — to group terms and combine operators (e.g., (designer OR artist) AND remote)

  • Title: — to find only jobs that actually have that word in the title (e.g., title:accounting)

And that allows you to run comparative searches like measuring how many CorpDev jobs are available vs. PM:
