Permit Technician (Multiple Openings)
Salary $29.49 – $34.69
Performs a variety of technical tasks to expedite the processing and issuance of various permits issued by the Building Division. Interprets information for customers in person and by phone regarding general requirements for building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, sign, grading, fire, demolition and house move permits. Assists customers with the permit application and submittal process. Work includes the review, acceptance and issuance of permit applications verification of legal descriptions detailed property records and project history research routing of applications through the permit process provision of permit status, inspection information and department policies and procedures. Enters appropriate data into a permit tracking database and determines permit fees. Assigns new addresses and street names and determines water meter sizes. Performs various administrative duties. Work involves heavy public contact.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent and minimum two years office experience with heavy public contact. Two years of general computer experience is required. Requires intermediate computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to utilize permit tracking database application. Must possess and maintain current International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Permit Technician or obtain within one year of hire.
One year Permit Technician experience is preferred. Basic engineering drafting is preferred.
Hours of Work
Core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to5:00 p.m., Monday & Friday.
Work is performed in an office environment and will include standing and sitting for long periods of time.
This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME).
