Temporary Research Assistant – Climate and Health Impacts

Cornell’s Health Impacts Core (CHIC) in Ithaca, New York is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant to support its ongoing work to build climate readiness capacity among public health and emergency managers in New York State. This role involves developing relationships with public health and emergency managers in New York State, responding to their capacity support request, and monitoring processes and outcomes. This is a casual appointment, offering less than 15 hours per week from June through August. The hourly pay rate for this position is $25.00.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and foster relationships with health departments in NYS
  • Assess partner capacity building and technical assistance needs related to climate + health preparedness
  • Identify, plan, and manage provision of capacity enhancement and/or technical assistance related to climate + health preparedness
  • Develop and implement a project M&E process
  • Ensure accuracy of collected data
  • Write a high-quality project report for CHIC
  • Mentor MPH students supporting the project

Requirements:

  • MPH degree
  • Living in NYS and able to work, in person, in Ithaca
  • Experience working with NYS Department of Health, NYS health departments, and Cornell Public Health
  • Proven experience with WorkPress and web design
  • Proven ability to collect and analyze qualitative data
  • Proven ability to understand and follow basic instructions
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proactive and flexible approach to completing tasks
  • Ability to cultivate inclusive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
