Social Media Intern (Part-time/temporary)
$15-$20/hr. DOE 10-15 hrs. per week
Oregon Forest Resources Institute, a state agency headquartered in West Portland, is accepting applications for a part-time social media intern position.
The Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI) was created by the Oregon Legislature in 1991 to support and enhance the state’s forest products industry by advancing public understanding of forests, forest management and forest products. A 13-member board of directors governs OFRI. It is funded by a portion of the forest products harvest tax. Learn more at OregonForests.org.
Must be a junior or senior college student currently enrolled in or having identified a field of specialization in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or another related academic discipline. Familiarity with social media, in particular Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and some experience with social media content management.
Assists the social media manager with refining and executing a content strategy for each of OFRI’s major social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) that is tailored to the audience of each channel; helps identify and create content for OFRI social media, including tracking forestry and natural resource-related media coverage that could be shared on OFRI social channels, drafting social media posts, taking and editing photos, recording video and developing graphics for social media, and organizing and executing live social events; maintains a social media content calendar to coordinate and strategically time posts for OFRI’s various social media channels; uses a social media management platform (Hootsuite) to coordinate timed posts; monitors OFRI social media channels and, in coordination with the social media manager, responds to comments and private messages received via social media; develops and plans multi-week social media outreach campaigns aimed at informing Oregonians about important forest-related topics; explores new ways in which OFRI can engage with state residents on social media to build a better public understanding of Oregon’s forests, forest management and forest products; assists with some other related public outreach efforts, including helping edit and write content for OFRI’s blog and monthly e-newsletter.
The social media intern can either work in OFRI’s Portland or Silverton offices or remotely, or a combination of in-person and remote work. Employee cannot remote work outside of the state of Oregon.
State of Oregon Employee Requirements
Part-time temporary employees may not work more than 1,040 hours in a calendar year.
An Oregon driving record check will be conducted on the top applicants to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record. An applicant whose license is from outside Oregon must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout.
