WRA’s Compliance Monitoring Team supports our clients by helping to implement their permits through surveys, compliance monitoring, and fulfilling reporting requirements. We are looking to expand our compliance monitoring team by bringing on seasonal Project Biologists with specialization in a variety of areas. We will review applicants on a rolling basis as project volume and demand increases. We are currently prioritizing candidates with California tiger salamander experience to work in and around the Santa Rosa Plain, though we have ongoing projects throughout northern California.
This position is for part time, project based work. WRA may not always have projects for you to work on, either due to project availability or specialization required. Additionally, you are under no obligation to accept the work we offer you.
In this role, you will be:
- Conducting field surveys (including clearance or protocol-level special status surveys, nesting bird surveys, and rare plant surveys);
- Conducting ongoing construction compliance monitoring;
- Doing occasional physical labor;
- Driving (sometimes long distances) to a job site;
- Spending a full day (sometimes 10 or more hours) in the field;
- Completing daily paperwork on time and with high attention to detail
- Interfacing and communicating effectively with crews and project managers.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field OR relevant professional experience;
- Minimum 6 months experience in California identifying and detecting wildlife species and/or construction monitoring for wildlife species;
- Preference for candidates with hands-on experience with state and federally listed species. Taxa that we generally work with include: California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, salt-marsh harvest mouse, California Ridgway’s rail, Alameda whipsnake, marine mammals, vernal pool branchiopods, and more;
- Preference for candidates with Federal or State permits with one or more species;
- Ability to work outside for long periods of time;
- Willingness to work in construction environments where schedule, timeliness, and attention to detail are top priorities;
- Commitment to working extended hours, up to six days a week, per project needs;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to provide training and do other public speaking;
- Technological aptitude and willingness to learn new programs;
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who have the following experience:
- SWPP implementation or monitoring (QSP)
- Fish salvages
- Sound monitoring
- Air quality monitoring
- Grade checking and/or RTK proficiency
- Protocol-level Ridgway’s and/or black rail surveys
- Protocol-level rare plant surveys
- HAZWOPER certification
- Extensive experience with California tiger salamander
