Assistant Director for Experiential Education, Rutgers

>> My name is Sue Pye. I'm Assistant Director for Experiential Education in University Career Services. And I graduated from Rutgers in 1995. Once I arrive here for work, anyway day of the week, probably my favorite thing about this job is there's no 2 days that are alike, which is great. Typically, I, you know, have a number of meetings I might have to take care of during the day. I'm usually working on anywhere from 3 to 6 projects at one time. Whether that's, you know, I'm creating, for example, this past year, we created a new online process for our Rutgers Internship and Co-Op Program. So we spent a lot of time having meetings; testing out this online application, looking at content, trying to decide if we needed to change policies. So there's usually a certain amount of time every day for me that's administrative and definitely involves meetings. Most days there's usually a little bit of time where I'm actually able to meet with students one-on-one, whether it's through appointments or what we call drop-ins, where students can come for a quick 10 to 15 minute meeting with a career advisor. And then at the end of the day, you know, probably maybe an hour or so of really just doing e-mail management is what I like to call it where just so much e-mail, but I can't respond to it all day. And I feel like most of my day is prioritizing e-mail and tasks and that kind of thing. But as I mentioned, probably the best part of my day mostly is that no 2 days look alike. It's always different.
