Company Overview:
Blue Sky Farm is a third generation family farm located in the heart of the Willamette Valley near Woodburn, Oregon. Over the years we have diversified into a variety of crops, however the back bone of the operation is producing turf type grass seed. Along with the three major types of grass seed; ryegrass, tall fescue and bent grass we also produce hops, hazelnuts, garlic, pumpkins, wheat, clover, corn, and specialty vegetable seeds such as spinach, radish, mustard and cabbage. Every summer we hire local help to operate harvest equipment and have a great tradition of providing summer jobs to hardworking first time employees.
Job Description:
We are seeking motivated college interns who are ready to step into a dynamic and rewarding role for the summer harvest season. As a Summer Harvest Intern and Crew Leader, you will play a crucial role in our grass seed and garlic harvest operations, being the leader on a team of high school students and working closely under the guidance of our experienced Crop Managers. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in agricultural practices, leadership, and equipment operation, setting a solid foundation for a career in the farming industry.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and work with a crew of high school students in daily harvest operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and a positive work environment.
- Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of farm equipment in accordance with safety protocols and Crop Managers’ instructions. Participate in maintenance checks and report any issues promptly.
- Learning & Development: Engage in learning opportunities to enhance your understanding of modern farming practices, crop management, and production agriculture.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a college degree program related to Agriculture, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Basic knowledge of agricultural practices and equipment is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and adaptability.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
