CSS is now hiring a part-time Chemical Waste Technician to support our contract at a federal facility who has a working knowledge in chemistry, biochemistry, geochemistry, environmental science or other applicable science field. Our services are organized into four business lines and several cross-cutting services that we have cultivated through our 32 years of corporate experience. The four business lines are Earth, Space & Life Sciences, Emergency Response & Disaster Recovery, Environmental, Safety & Health, and Natural Resources Management. The work for this position will occur in Colorado.
Responsibilities:
- For 16 hours per month, the Chemical Waste Technician will engage in and support chemical waste collection, management, and disposal following agreed upon methods, procedures, and techniques.
- A variety of types and quantities of waste are generated. Training will be provided.
- The work must be performed during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-5:30 PM. Individual can set their schedule with managers approval (example: 1 hour per day for 16 days a month; 4 hours over 4 days; 8 hours biweekly)
- Serves as a user of the client’s proprietary online waste management system, ensuring the client has the information necessary to adequately track hazardous waste disposal, recyclable materials, and universal waste.
- Assists with physically preparing and loading waste for transportation.
- Establishes and maintains a working relationship with subcontracted waste disposal firm(s).
- Promote a safety culture by following the assigned duties and complying with safety, environmental, federal, state and local regulations.
- Provides direct technical assistance to the project manager with identifying and characterizing nonregulated and hazardous chemical wastes.
- Provides timely task status reports and other required reports to the project manager.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or minimum of 2 years of course work in chemistry, biochemistry, geochemistry, environmental science or other applicable field or 5 years of on-the-job training as a hazmat technician, lab pack chemist, or environmental scientist.
- Working knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry.
- Good work ethic, analytical, and observational skills.
- Able to work in a chemical laboratory environment and wear basic PPE such as surgical gloves, steel-toed boots, and eye protection.
- Job requires individual to interact with laboratorians and push a cart throughout a federal facility.
- Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds or less.
- Experience working independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft office: Word, Excel, Outlook
- Must be eligible to work in the US and have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a medical physical, drug screen, and federal background check.
