Lab and IT Technician
Role Summary:
As a contracted Lab Technician at Futronics, you will assist the engineering team to integrate, test and validate the prototypes for our next-generation service robotic products. You will also be in charge of setting up, managing and troubleshooting the technology systems that Futronics uses to maintain computer and software networks.
Job Type: Contract Position (Hourly Paid, up to 40 hours/week)
Start Date: Immediately (We are currently not recruiting for summer interhships)
Essential Responsibilities:
Work as a hands-on technical member of the engineering team, assisting the Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Industrial Designers to prototype, assemble, instrument and test various robotic systems in different product development phases.
Self-motivated and capable of working in a fast-paced environment under tight schedules. Willing to learn and pick-up new skills. Must be dependable with a strong work ethic.
Support the engineering efforts by performing technical functions, such as designing and prototyping wire harnesses and test fixtures, bringing up and testing circuit boards, troubleshooting embedded subsystems, and sustaining continued operation of robot prototypes.
Support the engineering efforts by performing administrative functions, such as creating work instructions, securing quotations, ordering, and receiving materials, seeking technical support from vendors, and preparing job status reports, time sheets and expense sheets in a timely and thorough manner.
Conduct tests both onsite and offsite and assist in the troubleshooting and failure analysis efforts, write test reports and organize the test data.
Review diagnostics and assess the functionality and efficiency of systems and implement security measures to protect intellectual properties and data integrity.
Monitor security certificates and company compliance of internal requirements and government requirements.
Offer technical support to company staff and troubleshoot computer problems and install and update software and hardware as needed.
Anticipate and report the cost of replacing or updating computer or other IT items.
Maintain an organized and presentable engineering facility.
Maintaining a strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within Futronics’ safety standards.
Other duties such as product demonstrations, presentations, and participation to offsite events may be required from time to time.
Basic Qualifications/Requirements:
Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related engineering disciplines.
At least 2 years of industry experience in integrating electronics with mechanical systems such as in automation, aerospace, medical device, and automotive industries.
Experience in system integration and testing of mechatronic systems.
Experience in supporting product development lifecycle and commercialization of electronic products.
Expert knowledge of IT best practices, policies, and regulations.
In-depth understanding of programming, computer science, and digital security and a clear understanding of client/server technology and network architecture.
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in addressing IT related issues.
Strong ability to multi-task with attention to details in executing engineering and IT tasks.
Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
Must be 18 years or older.
Willing to work at different working locations when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent hands-on skills with electronics prototyping and troubleshooting using lab tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, signal generator, soldering station, etc.). Experience in embedded systems and integrating microcontrollers, system-on-chip and system-on-module devices into PCBAs.
Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printers and CNC mills.
Experience in management of vendors of electronic and mechanical parts, PCBAs, and cable assemblies.
Familiarity with one or more of the following software suites: SolidWorks, Altium Designer, OrCAD/Allegro, and similar design tools.
Great task management skills, including organization, planning, time management and prioritization.
Familiarity with sensing devices, ADC/DAC fundamentals, and digital signal processing is a plus.
Familiarity with firmware development using C. Experience with Arduinos and any microcontroller platform is a plus.
Passionate about exploring new technologies and implementing innovative ideas and concepts.
