The Head Start/Early Head Start program strengthens families and closes the achievement gap for over 500 of Central Oregon’s most vulnerable and at-risk children aged 0-5 and pregnant mothers. Head Start/Early Head Start integrates high-quality early education and family engagement with other critical services.
Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for providing professional translation and interpretation services to support communication between children and families, Head Start/Early Head Start Staff, and community service providers. This position also provides information on the cultures represented by families served. This position helps with enrollments, conferences, Family Nights, home visits, and others as needed. This is an on-call position but will have the opportunity to fulfill weekly interpretation needs/requests and potentially extended periods of time for interpretation as needed. Need to be flexible and willing to travel to different communities (Bend, Redmond, Prineville, La Pine) to help for interpretation needs.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Verbal and written fluency in specified second language and English required
- Employment or volunteer experience interpreting and translating from English to specified second language and specified second language to English required
- Employment or volunteer experience working with adults in a helping or teaching capacity preferred
- Employment or volunteer experience in social services preferred
- Current or past Head Start parent preferred
- Must be able to ride a school bus with children for assigned periods of time as needed
- Required prior to date of hire and throughout employment:
- Valid driver’s license
- Proof of current auto insurance
- Current enrollment in the OR Child Care Division-Criminal History Registry
- Above certifications must be kept current to remain employed
- Access to reliable transportation required
