POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction and daily supervision of the Program Directors, the Aquatics Director implements the operation of the entire Aquatics Program including the pool and the lake. The Aquatics Director is a member of the Leadership staff and supervises the Assistant Aquatics Director, Lifeguards, and Activity Instructors assigned to aquatics activities and is responsible for visually inspecting the lake and pool daily for general safety and to verify that all safety equipment is present and in good working order at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres and complies with the YMCA of High Point Employee Manual, Policy & Procedures Manual, Code of Conduct and Camp Cheerio Staff Standards & Expectations.
- Tests and classifies swimming ability of staff and campers.
- Utilizes staff abilities to the best advantage in carrying out the waterfront programs in swimming, lifesaving, canoeing, kayaking, etc.
- Supervises camp staff assigned to the pool and/or lake and assigns staff appropriately.
- Carries out instruction and lifeguard duties during swim classes.
- Maintains the pool including vacuuming, cleaning tile, backwashing, water quality, pool deck, etc.
- Checks equipment and makes or requests necessary repairs.
- During staff training, sets up a pool and waterfront area and trains staff.
- Writes lesson plans which foster participants’ aquatics skills.
- Conducts daily inventory and storage of equipment and supplies to ensure adequate quantities.
- Teaches and monitors proper use of equipment.
- Evaluates the current season and makes suggestions for the following camp season.
- Monitors chemical and temperature of the pool and adjusts as needed.
- Serves as an active member of the Leadership Staff, assisting in a weekend camper supervision, evaluations, and participating as a leader in other areas of camp as determined by the Camp Director.
- Attends all staff meetings, in-service training, camp-out/cookout, opening and closing ceremonies as required by supervisors.
- Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on the YMCA.
- Performs other duties and tasks as requested by immediate supervisor to facilitate efficient and effective operation of the YMCA.
