Job Description: The Lead Policy Content Editor contributes to ONC’s mission of providing nonpartisan news, opinions, and policy solutions by overseeing the editorial process for our policy content department. This lead will oversee 4 to 5 policy editorial interns and volunteers. The Lead Policy Content Editor will delegate tasks to interns/volunteers within the department, assigning responsibilities based on their strengths and expertise. They will provide guidance and support to interns/volunteers, ensuring they have the necessary resources and assistance to excel in their roles. The Lead Policy Content Editor will actively coach interns/volunteers, fostering their professional development and helping them navigate their responsibilities within the department. All lead editors are a part of the editorial desk that is overseen by the Managing Editor. This lead is responsible for ensuring policy content is uploaded to our website, reviewing and editing internal and external website submissions to ensure compliance with the Writer’s Code of Conduct and with the stylistic and grammatical rules adopted by ONC, and if applicable editing and formatting books produced by ONC.
This position is remote, with work primarily conducted over Zoom and Slack, so applicants must be comfortable coordinating in a remote environment and are expected to maintain a high level of communication. The duration of this internship can be as short as a semester or as long as a year or more and can be extended. Preferably, this leader will commit to 6 months.
Compensation: This is not a paid position.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee the policy editorial team at ONC.
- Delegate tasks to interns and volunteers based on their strengths and expertise.
- Ensure efficient and timely uploading of internal and external website content.
- Review and edit internal and external website submissions for compliance with the Writer’s Code of Conduct and ONC’s stylistic and grammatical rules.
- Edit and format books produced by ONC.
- Effectively communicate with other ONC team members (Slack, Zoom etc.).
Requirements: The Lead Policy Content Editor should have the following skills, education, and experience:
- This role would be particularly good for those working towards a degree in Journalism, Writing/Creative Writing, English or Literature, and/or related fields
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are required
- Knowledge of basic APA formatting required
- Google Workspace experience preferred
- Responsive, consistent, and effective communicator, even during conflict
- Ability to work remotely and on their own schedule in order to make deadlines
- Experience in policy research, political science or a related domain a plus
- Ability to attend the bi-weekly organization-wide meetings
- Ability to attend bi-weekly meetings with all editorial leads
- Must be authorized to intern in the U.S.
