Reporting to the Associate Director of Federal Affairs, the Federal Affairs Intern will support the Government Affairs and Policy team’s strategic projects to inform our external advocacy and messaging. The intern will gain first-hand experience working alongside federal lobbyists who are promoting life-changing genetic therapies and technologies. He/she will support projects that advance Sarepta’s leadership position in creating genetic therapies for rare diseases, biomedical research and development, and other relevant policy topics. The intern will also assist with Sarepta’s federal advocacy efforts and assist with management of Sarepta’s Political Action Committee (PAC) to include support for recordkeeping, communications, and other operations.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Work with the Government Affairs team to support advocacy initiatives, including monitoring congressional briefings, hearings, trade association meetings, and similar events and providing concise written and verbal feedback to the Federal Affairs team.
- Draft correspondence, talking points and background materials for use by the Federal Affairs team with government officials and Sarepta executives.
- Review and track engagement via Sarepta’s Political Action Committee (PAC).
- Complete a major capstone project by the end of the internship in support of the Federal Affairs team – presenting a report based on researching, compiling, and comparing the relevant policy positions and records of election year 2024 Presidential candidates and candidates running for Congressional districts that are key to achieving the Sarepta Government Affairs and Policy team’s advocacy objectives.
Desired Education and Skills:
- Undergraduate students majoring in political science or a related discipline with a strong interest in federal healthcare, life sciences, or rare disease policy and advocacy, and an understanding of the national political landscape and federal government processes.
Program Timeline:
- This application is for a 10 or 12-week summer internship program that will either start on May 28th or June 10th.
- The program will conclude on August 16th, 2024.
This is a remote position where in-office presence is not required.
This position is remote. However, you will be expected to work on site at one of Sarepta’s facilities in the United States and/or attend Company-sponsored in-person events from time to time.
The targeted salary range for this position is $21 – $25 per hour depending upon years of education completed and nature of role.
