Sarah works in the Research Office at the Institute for Reproductive Health in Washington, DC. Her main role is to research international development programs related to women’s health and gender.

>> Hi, my name is Sara Burgess. I'm a research officer at a place called the Institute for Reproductive Health. That's an institute that is based out of Georgetown University, and there I conduct research on international development programs relating to women's health and gender. For me, during a busy day, I'm in touch with people in a couple different countries, in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia. I help manager four different research studies that are happening. So I'm maybe receiving some data, looking through it, analyzing it, or I'm writing questionnaires or interview guides. I'm on the phone with researchers abroad taking about how a study is about to roll out. I write a lot of emails, have some meetings. All of the projects I work on are research studies. So they're evaluating programs to improve public health or women's access to education. So there's one in Benin in West Africa, and that is about using social networks to spread information about family planning. There is one in Uganda, and that is about creating awareness about gender among adolescents in a post-conflict area. There's one in Kenya that is an app for women's health. So testing whether the app is appropriate and useful, and there's one in Nepal that is also looking at an education program that gives youth information about gender.
